Research highlights: Recipient of a K23 Mentored Research Scientist award through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the principal investigator (PI) of the Balance Study, an NIH-funded randomized controlled trial on the use of mindfulness-based stress reduction for caregivers of people with dementia.

 

Research interests/expertise: Aging, mental health, chronic disease, complementary therapies, and end-of-life care.

 

Current projects: 1) PI of a K23 Mentored Research Scientist Award on the use of complementary medicine in patients with diabetes, 2) PI on a randomized clinical controlled trial on stress reduction for caregivers of patients with dementia, 3) PI of a randomized clinical trial on mindfulness-based stress reduction in diabetes care, 4) PI of a randomized clinical trial on the use of guided imagery to improve adherence in patients undergoing CPAP desensitization, 5) PI on a study of compassion fatigue and burnout in hospice workers in Minnesota, 6) Co-investigator on DIAMOND, a large study of depression management in primary care in Minnesota, 7) Co-investigator on the NIH funded Mental Health Research Network, 7) Co-investigator on TranformMN, a study of medical home in MN, and 8) Co-investigator on the Minnesota Memory Project, a longitudinal registry of aging adults in Minnesota.
