Research highlights: Principal investigator (PI) in Minnesota on the National Cancer Institute (NCI)/Transdisciplinary Research on Energetics and Cancer-funded Healthy Homes/Healthy Kids pilot study for this trial, co-investigator on the National Institute on Aging-funded Keep Active Minnesota project that focused on improving physical activity maintenance among adults 50 to 70 years old, co-investigator in an internal grant-funded study on the impact of community-supported agriculture membership, co-investigator on the MENU (Making Effective Nutritional Choices for Cancer Prevention) study.

 

Research interests/expertise: Obesity-prevention and weight-loss interventions in youth and adult populations; integrating interventions into the health care delivery system.

 

Current projects: 1) Leading the obesity research core at HPRF under a subcontract with the National Institutes of Health-funded Minnesota Obesity Center, 2) PI on the NCI-funded R01 study Novel Approaches to Weight Loss Maintenance, a randomized trial evaluating the long-term efficacy of a phone- and mail-based weight loss maintenance intervention among 400 adults who have recently lost at least 10 percent of their body weight, 3) PI on the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Keep It Off study to look at how people can maintain weight loss over the long-term, 4) PI of Healthy Homes/Healthy Kids/5- to 9-year-olds, a National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)-funded study to evaluate the long-term efficacy of a pediatric primary care-based obesity-prevention intervention for at-risk 5- to 9-year-old children, 5) PI of Healthy Homes/Healthy Kids/preschool, an NIDDK-funded study to evaluate the feasibility of a pediatric primary care-based obesity-prevention intervention for at-risk preschool children, 6) PI on a HPRF Partnership Grant study to examine the feasibility and acceptability of promoting community-supported agriculture (CSA) members in the worksite setting and to examine the effect of CSA membership on dietary intake and household eating patterns, 7) Co-investigator on the Agency for Health Research and Quality-funded study Health Outcomes of Bariatric Surgery in Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes, 8) Co-investigator on the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI)-funded multisite study to examine predictors of and patterns of care regarding pediatric hypertension; 9) HPRF subcontract for Leslie Lytle's NHLBI-funded Etiology of Childhood Obesity, and 10) HPRF subcontract for the National Children's Study to assist with study planning and recruitment.
