Research Interests
Dr. Kalliainen has several current interests ranging from surgical techniques in hand and peripheral nerve surgery to the structure of medicine and medical practice.
1. How do physicians view and value knowledge? Her master's thesis in Philosophy looks at the Ethics and Epistemology of Evidence-Based Medicine.
2. How do we translate knowledge to clinical practice? Current projects in this area have been "Collagen Tube Conduits in Peripheral Nerve Repair" and "A Month in the Life of an Evidence-Based Surgeon".
She enjoys working with students and residents who want to learn the basics of clinical research (primarily through retrospective studies) and who enjoy thinking about why we do what we do.
