All research results are intended for the public domain. HPRF is a not-for-profit corporation within the HealthPartners family of health care organizations.




It's about time
Shift workers, especially those who alternate nights and days, are at elevated risk for serious illnesses such as certain types of cancer. Yet shift work is unavoidable. How, then, can we staff 24-7 enterprises such as hospitals with the least harm to the workers? This question is one of many regarding the "human time clock" that form the basis of HPRF researcher Erhard Haus's life work. A pathologist who has overseen Regions Hospital's autopsy and toxicology services since 1969, Haus (right) studies how the human body protests disruptions to normal patterns of light and dark.
